On the 4th of August 2022, the head of the Armenian community, Archimandrite Oshagan Gulgulian, left on a three-day pastoral visit to Basra with the reverend father Ghevont Saghatilian, the newly appointed pastor of Basra Church, Mr. Melkon Melkonian, Chairman of the Armenian diocesan council, and Mr. Novak Bedrosian, a member of the Armenian diocesan sub council of Basra. The delegation was received by Mr. Khajag Vartanian, the Chairman of the Armenian diocesan sub council of Basra, and Mr. Ishkhan Manougian, member of the sub council of Basra. During his pastoral travel, the archimandrite visited the sick and the elderly people and prayed for their health. On the 6th of August 2022, the reverend father Ghevont Saghatilian celebrated his first divine Liturgy at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in the presence of the Basra’s sect people. During the liturgy, the archimandrite introduced the newly appointed spiritual shepherd to the believers and after the litugy, he met them at the church hall, where Mr. Melkon Melkonian, introduced the newly elected Archimandrite of the Armenian community to the people.
