The foundation stone of the Armenian Orthodox Church of the Virgin Mary in Zakho was blessed with the Holy Myron (holy anointing oil) on the 3rd of October 2021 by His Eminence Archbishop Dr. Avak Asadourian, head of the Armenian Orthodox sect in Iraq. The ceremony was presided by His Eminence in which he laid the cornerstone for the under-construction church in the presence of the bishop of the Chaldean Church, the Consul of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia, Mr. Alek Gharibian, the Charge d’Affairs of the Consulate of the Republic of Armenia in Erbil, Mr. Antranig Haroutionian, the deputy of the Central Administrative Committee, members of the committee and several guests.
